Starkweather: A serial killer's encounter

Charles Starkweather encountered something that looks very much like Bigfoot.
In the February 1999 Issue of Fate Magazine, Robert Damon Schneck, who describes himself as an expert on physical and paranormal North American hairy bipeds, wrote an article titled: Death Had a Sagittal Crest Schneck writes about mass murderer Charles Starkweather, who, with his girlfriend, went on a killing spree across the Midwest in 1958. He takes several excerpts from Starkweather's journal that was written while he was in prison waiting for his execution. [Starkweather: Inside the Mind of a Teenage Killer] It seems that Starkweather may have actually seen a Bigfoot long before the term, Bigfoot ever existed. He wrote about early morning visions, (several years prior to his killing spree), where he would ..."wake up and see 'her' standing there in the window.. and all I could see would be the part from the waist up. It was a kind of half human and half bear...only it didn't have no neck. It just tapered off from a big chest to a small pointed head...It didn't have no arms and no ears. It was close and loud at first, but it got further and further away and the sound became mournful and sad until I couldn't hear it no more." (Lustmord: The Writings and Artifacts of Murder, ed. Brian King, Bloat Burbank, 1996) Schneck says in his article, "It would be easy to ignore this story, considering the source, if it weren't a classic Sasquatch sighting from before the name "Bigfoot" was ever applied. Starkweather had no idea what he was seeing. Since he was the kind of person inclined to mass murder, he decided it must be death come to howl at his window. " Schneck explains that his description is right in line with most reports of such sightings, such as "massive chest with visible neck or ears, possibly with its arms at its sides where they would be hard to see, adding to the width. The most interesting detail is the pointed head. It suggests that "Death" had a Sagittal crest like bigger gorillas and most Sasquatch. Mournful sounds are one of the many vocalizations made by hairy bipeds in the woods of North America. They have been reported consistently from Native American traditions up to the modern era that began seven years after the bloodbath in Nebraska, when a series of giant footprints appeared at a road construction site in Willow Creek, California." Today, Willow Creek is called the "Gateway to Bigfoot" and holds a Bigfoot festival every year. Could this mass murderer
have actually seen Bigfoot? Stranger things have happened!
Think about trying to describe and explain something that you have
never seen before and something that defies description. Think
about others who have had to try and explain their sightings, not
to mention having had to make sense of it all. |
